Internet Connectivity

Network Connectivity by Enterasys

There will be Internet connectivity (both wired and  wireless access) at the Congress Centre.

The local network at CHEP'04 is sponsored by Enterasys Networks. They will demonstrate their "Secure Networks" solution and also debut their new 54Mbps RoamAbout wireless cards based on the IEEE 802.11a standard. Internet connectivity will be provided through Cablecom and SWITCH.

There will be a network helpdesk at the conference to assist with queries/difficulties relating to network and Internet access.

Connecting your laptop at CHEP'04

You will have the following connectivity options, subject to a required registration procedure:

  1. use your standard Ethernet card/built-in socket via one of the DHCP sockets enabled for this purpose (only at the "Club Casino" terminal room, not at the session rooms)
  2. use your own wireless card
  3. test-drive the new IEEE 802.11 a/b/g wireless cards on offer from Enterasys.

If you don't register you will NOT be able to connect to the Internet via your laptop.

Secure connections are crucial!

We request you to help us keep the network at CHEP'04 free of viruses. Please be aware that there will be no firewall; in order to run securely and as a courtesy to other participants, please install Antivirus software, live updates and security patches on your machine before coming. We also encourage you to install your favourite firewall software (as if you would be connecting from home).

For those of you who suspect they have a virus, either before or during the conference, please use this online tool from Symantec:
